Three programmes, each built around one clear unit of help, so you always know what a given amount does. Prices are our estimates from local shops in Ramapuram, Chennai and will be updated as we buy.
A child starts the term with nothing missing
Children from low-income homes fall behind for small reasons: no notebooks, no one at home who can help with homework, a uniform that no longer fits. We remove those reasons one at a time.
- School-supplies kits at the start of each term: notebooks, stationery, a school bag
- Textbooks and workbooks the school asks for but families can't afford
- Volunteer-led homework help, an hour or two a week, in small groups
A bad fortnight doesn't become a hungry one
A lost week of daily-wage work can empty a kitchen. We run community meal drives and hand out grocery kits so a bad month doesn't become a hungry one.
- Grocery kits: rice, dal, oil, atta, salt, spices, enough for a family of four for two weeks
- Cooked-meal drives for daily-wage workers and their families
- Nutrition top-ups for children in our learning programme: milk, eggs, fruit
One bill paid before it becomes a loan
Some problems are small in rupees and huge in consequence: a ₹2,300 medicine bill, a school fee due on Friday, a leaking roof before the rains. Left alone, they become high-interest loans. We step in fast.
- One-off help with medical bills, school fees and essential repairs
- Paid directly to the hospital, school or shop wherever possible, never as cash
- Every case reviewed by two volunteers, and recorded on the ledger
Close to home, in Ramapuram, Chennai
We work where our volunteers live. Families come to us through neighbours, teachers and volunteers who know them personally. That keeps help quick, and keeps us honest.
We name a locality or a partner only once we have actually worked there and have their permission. Until then, this section stays short on purpose.
